Salt Lake City Chosen to Host 2034 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has announced that Salt Lake City, Utah, will host the 2034 Winter Olympics, marking a return of the games to the capital of the Beehive State after previously hosting the event in 2002.

IOC President Thomas Bach expressed confidence in Salt Lake City’s ability to organize exceptional Olympic and Paralympic Games, citing the strong legacy of the 2002 event. Utah Governor Spencer Cox celebrated the news, highlighting the state’s commitment to building community and celebrating excellence.

The decision was met with excitement in Salt Lake City, with Mayor Erin Mendenhall emphasizing the shared values between the city and the Olympic Movement. The event will utilize existing or temporary venues, avoiding the high costs associated with building new facilities.

As the U.S. prepares to host the Winter Olympics for the fifth time, Salt Lake City looks forward to welcoming the world in 2034. In addition to the Winter Games, the French Alps were awarded the 2030 Winter Olympics, while Paris currently hosts the Summer Olympics.
