Rheinmetall to Construct Ammo Plant in Ukraine

The German arms manufacturer, Rheinmetall, has announced that it has received Kyiv’s first official order to build an ammunition plant in Ukraine. The company plans to establish at least four factories in the country, with construction set to begin soon and completion expected within a few years. Rheinmetall aims to start producing ammunition in two years, creating a Ukrainian competence center for ammunition.

The cost of the plant is estimated to be in the low three-digit million euro range, with Rheinmetall taking on the responsibility of operating the facility. The company’s CEO, Armin Papperger, signed an agreement with the Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries to expand strategic cooperation at the “Ukraine Recovery Conference” in Berlin.

Recently, Rheinmetall also opened an armor factory in western Ukraine, with plans to deliver the first Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle to the Ukrainian armed forces by the end of the year. This collaboration underscores the confidence in Rheinmetall’s expertise and manufacturing capacities, as well as its commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defense capability.
