Recent raids by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and the Hawks in Mpumalanga have resulted in the seizure of assets and properties valued at R52.6m, linked to corruption within the provincial government. Premier Mandla Ndlovu sees these actions as essential for cracking down on corruption in state entities.
The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) froze assets of 22 officials, service providers, and entities involved in alleged corruption within the Mpumalanga department of public works, particularly related to Covid-19 PPE tenders. Investigations reveal procurement irregularities and kickbacks in the awarding of contracts without service deliveries.
Premier Ndlovu welcomes the asset seizures as part of efforts to eliminate corruption and uphold integrity in public service. The crackdown aims to establish good governance and promote ethical conduct among government officials. These actions send a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated in Mpumalanga state institutions.
