Two businessmen fell victim to this scam by receiving calls from individuals claiming to be investigating their cases, demanding payment to avoid prosecution. Detective Captain Nompumelelo Hadebe warns the public to be cautious of suspicious phone calls and recommends verifying the caller’s identity by contacting the police station they claim to be associated with.
It is essential to ask for the caller’s full name and location before complying with any requests for money. If you suspect you are being targeted by a scam, report it to the nearest police station or contact the SAPS Crime Stop number at 08600-10111.
