KP Government and Bannu Aman Jirga Agree to Address Security Issues
Following a meeting between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Bannu Aman Jirga, it has been decided to convene a meeting of the provincial apex committee to discuss security-related issues on Thursday. The 40-member jirga, led by Nasir Khan Bangash, raised 16 demands with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The discussions, which lasted late into the night, resulted in the government agreeing to the demands, with a plan to seek approval from the provincial apex committee.
Five members of the jirga will attend the apex committee meeting, with CM Gandapur planning to visit Bannu district on Friday. Despite the positive outcomes of the jirga, the sit-in camp will continue until CM Gandapur’s visit to the district.
The jirga had presented demands including the dismantling of surrendered Taliban centers and an end to their patrols. The group also expressed displeasure over the portrayal of a recent peace march incident. Provincial government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif emphasized the importance of the jirga’s role in maintaining peace in the region.
Overall, the jirga’s efforts have led to a commitment to address security concerns and restore peace in the area, showcasing the power of community-led initiatives in fostering dialogue and cooperation.
