The Israeli parliament passes trio of bills targeting UNRWA.
The Israeli parliament has taken the first step in passing three bills aimed at shutting down the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and labeling it as a “terrorist organization.”
One bill prohibits UNRWA from operating on Israeli territory, while another aims to strip UNRWA personnel of legal immunities. A third bill would designate UNRWA as a terrorist organization, requiring Israel to sever ties with it.
These bills must undergo two more readings to become law, with the previous attempt to designate UNRWA as a terrorist organization in May setting a precedent.
Israel’s push to close UNRWA stems from allegations of involvement in Palestinian Resistance operations, despite limited evidence supporting these claims.
UNRWA, established in 1949, provides crucial aid and protection to Palestinian refugees across various regions, including Gaza where it plays a vital role.
