Amid cross-border clashes with Hezbollah, Israel has made the decision to cancel the upcoming school year in areas near the border with Lebanon. Israeli Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced the news, stating that students from these northern communities will instead be able to attend schools in other parts of Israel.
With over 62,000 Israelis displaced from northern areas and more than 90,000 Lebanese fleeing their homes in southern Lebanon due to the violence, tensions are high. Previously, the Israeli government had planned to start the school year on September 1 in these border areas, but recent events have led to a change in plans.
Kisch expressed disappointment in the decision, calling it unfortunate but necessary under the circumstances. He urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and security officials to take swift and decisive action against Lebanon to address the ongoing conflict.
