The High Staff Turnover of US Vice President Kamala Harris

US Vice President Kamala Harris has a staggering staff turnover rate of 91.5%, according to transparency watchdog OpenTheBooks. Only four out of her original 47 employees are still part of her team, as reported by the Senate disclosures. This revelation comes after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 race and endorsed Harris as his replacement.

OpenTheBooks, an NGO monitoring government spending, analyzed the staff list from the Office of the Vice President, sourced from the Senate’s semi-annual report. The group highlighted the significant turnover rate within Harris’s team, with similar challenges faced by Biden, whose staff turnover rate is 77%.

Reports in the past have described Harris’s team as a “revolving door,” with high-profile aides leaving due to reasons like burnout, better opportunities, and concerns about being permanently associated with the Vice President. Despite backing from Biden and prominent Democrats, Harris’s official nomination as the party’s candidate will be decided at the upcoming convention.

During her recent campaign rally, Harris criticized former President Trump for wanting to “take the country backward,” while Trump accused her of mishandling the immigration crisis at the US-Mexico border. The ongoing dynamics in US politics continue to shape the narrative for the upcoming presidential elections.
