Government to receive Rs 70 billion in taxes from Packaged Milk.

Industrialist Mia Zahid Hussain Criticizes Government’s Decision to Impose Sales Tax on Packaged Milk

In a recent statement, well-known industrialist Mia Zahid Hussain expressed his concerns over the government’s move to impose an 18 percent sales tax on packaged milk. He highlighted that this decision will not only burden the already struggling masses but also benefit dairy farmers who do not pay taxes.

According to Zahid Hussain, the government stands to earn approximately Rs 70 billion in taxes from packaged milk, which holds a mere 5 percent market share, compared to loose milk which accounts for 95 percent. He emphasized that the quality of loose milk is substandard, and the tax imposition on packaged milk will worsen the situation.

Furthermore, Zahid Hussain pointed out that Pakistan currently has the highest tax rate on packaged milk globally, making it unaffordable for those seeking quality milk for their children. The recent demand by dairy and cattle farmers in Karachi to increase the price of milk further adds to the ongoing challenges faced by consumers.
