The German government has taken a significant step in the fight against extremism by banning the Islamic Center Hamburg and its affiliated organizations. The Hamburg-based group was accused of promoting the Iranian leadership’s ideology and supporting Hezbollah in Lebanon. As police conducted raids in 53 locations across Germany, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that the ban was necessary due to confirmed suspicions gathered from previous investigations.

Faeser highlighted that the Islamic Center Hamburg promoted an extremist ideology in Germany, supported Hezbollah, and spread antisemitism. The group was also accused of aggressively disseminating the ideology of the Iranian Revolution in the country. Despite the ban, the IZH claimed to advocate peace, tolerance, and interreligious dialogue.

The Interior Ministry announced the closure of four Shiite mosques and the confiscation of the IZH’s assets as part of the ban. This decisive action demonstrates the government’s commitment to combating radical ideologies and promoting security and peace within the country.
