French PM Macron welcomes Israeli athletes to Paris 2024

French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed in an interview that Israeli athletes are welcome at the 2024 Olympic Games, dismissing calls for their delegation to be banned. He emphasized that Israel has the right to compete under their colors in the opening ceremony.

Macron clarified that the decision lies with the International Olympic Committee and not him, emphasizing that politics should not interfere with the Games. He addressed concerns over the differential treatment of Russian athletes, pointing out the unique circumstances surrounding Israel’s participation due to recent terrorist attacks.

In response to threats against the Israeli delegation, Macron strongly condemned such actions and expressed his commitment to ensuring their safety. He also extended an invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to attend the Games and highlighted France’s support for a two-state solution.

Despite objections from some quarters, Macron reiterated his stance that Israel’s athletes are indeed welcome at the Paris 2024 Olympics, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and sportsmanship.
