The French Alps Chosen as Provisional Host for 2030 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) provisionally selected the French Alps to host the 2030 Winter Olympics pending French President Emmanuel Macron’s guarantee of funding and security commitments by October 1. Macron affirmed France’s commitment to hosting the games and assured the IOC of the government’s support.

The decision comes just before the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, showcasing France’s ongoing dedication to hosting major sporting events. The French Alps received 84 out of 88 votes at the IOC session, securing the bid for the Winter Olympics.

The 2030 Winter Olympics would mark France’s fourth time hosting the prestigious event, following previous games held in Chamonix, Grenoble, and Albertville. The IOC’s selection process now focuses on a preferred bid rather than visiting multiple candidate cities, streamlining the decision-making process.

In a separate announcement at the IOC session, Salt Lake City in the United States was chosen to host the 2034 Winter Olympics, highlighting the global appeal and reach of the Olympic Games.
