Federal cabinet puts off decision to ban PTI.

The federal cabinet has postponed its decision on banning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and invoking Article 6 against PTI founder Imran Khan, ex-president Dr Arif Alvi, and former deputy NA speaker Qasim Suri. The government plans to consult with coalition parties, including the Pakistan People’s Party, before making a final decision.

Earlier, the government had announced its intention to ban PTI and initiate Article 6 proceedings against key members. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar cited reasons such as the foreign funding case, May 9 riots, and a resolution passed in the US as grounds for the proposed ban.

Tarar stated, “We believe that there is credible evidence to support the ban on PTI, and we will refer the matter to the Supreme Court.” The decision to ban PTI aligns with Article 17 of the Constitution, according to the minister.

The federal government’s decision will be presented in a future cabinet meeting following consultations with coalition partners.
