The Ministry of Education estimates around seven lecturers have left, marking a worrying trend for the academic community. One mathematician received an offer from Chicago, and doubts linger about returning to Israel.
No statement has been issued by the government regarding the situation. Critics view Netanyahu’s administration as the most hardline right-wing since Israel’s inception in 1948.
Experts predict a further shift to the right following ongoing military actions in Gaza since October, with international condemnation over the civilian casualties and destruction. The situation has led to accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
