The Night of Gunfire in Juba: What Happened?
The recent outbreak of gunfire in parts of Juba has left residents seeking clarity and authorities scrambling to investigate the incident. The South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) have attributed the overnight unrest to civilian motorists who failed to comply with security checks.
SSPDF spokesperson Maj Gen Lul Ruai Koang emphasized the importance of cooperation with security forces conducting routine searches for potentially harmful items. Four individuals, including three minor girls, were apprehended, with one man sustaining a gunshot wound. Gen Koang assured that investigations are ongoing to determine if there was excessive use of force by security personnel.
Residents of Juba woke to a calm morning after a tense night of heavy gunfire between 10 and 11 pm. Speculations hint at an altercation between night patrols and armed groups near the Seventh Day Roundabout. As authorities continue their inquiries, residents are advised to stay vigilant and comply with security directives.
