British foreign secretary David Lammy arrived in India for a four-day visit to “reset” economic, domestic, and security ties. This is the first high-level tour to the country by a representative of the UK’s newly-elected Labour government.
Mr Lammy’s visit aims to strengthen the UK-India partnership and progress the Free Trade Agreement negotiations. There are hopes that the FTA will double trade to £86bn by 2030, but negotiations have been challenging.
During his visit, Mr Lammy will meet with key Indian officials to discuss various issues, including trade, climate change, and the imprisonment of British nationals in India. The visit is seen as a step towards enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
