DA refuses to align with ANC in Joburg and undisturbed by ActionSA’s proximity.

The DA is set to reject the ANC’s bid for a R2.5bn French loan in Johannesburg on Thursday, citing lack of transparency and consultation regarding the loan conditions. DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga emphasized the need for more information on the loan’s usage and repayment.

Finance MMC Dada Morero has made multiple attempts to secure council approval for the loan from the Agence Francaise de Developpement. ActionSA has shown interest in working with the ANC under specific conditions, including the removal of Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda and the elimination of the R200 prepaid electricity surcharge.

Msimanga criticized ActionSA for its changing stance and poor electoral performance, questioning their relevance and commitment to the coalition. He expressed uncertainty about replicating a GNU arrangement in Gauteng due to recent government negotiation standoffs.

The DA remains cautious about joining coalitions without clear terms and a structured action plan. Msimanga stressed the importance of principled power sharing and conflict resolution mechanisms in potential agreements.
