The incident near Nouakchott resulted in 120 people rescued by the coastguard, including four children.

The route from West Africa to the Canary Islands is one of the world’s deadliest, with thousands of migrants dying each year.
Despite the risks, many migrants continue to attempt the dangerous voyage in search of a better life.
Efforts are being made to address the root causes of migration, including providing aid to countries like Mauritania.
