Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is gearing up to strengthen Ukraine’s defense with four new security agreements as the Russia-Ukraine war enters its third year. In a video address on Monday, Zelenskyy announced the upcoming negotiations for these agreements, which will cover defense support, finances, and humanitarian cooperation.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of having a diverse set of partners for these agreements, not limited to NATO members, to defend their shared values. He stressed the need for Ukraine to have its own security tools in place, regardless of global circumstances, to protect its people and state.
Currently, Ukraine has already signed security treaties with 24 countries, including notable allies like the US, UK, Germany, France, and Japan, as well as the EU. These agreements are part of the ongoing support Ukraine is receiving, as reaffirmed by the G7 during a NATO summit in Vilnius last July.
