British parliamentarians are showing support for the PTI as they face alleged intimidation and harassment after being ousted from power in 2022. During a hearing at the House of Lords, PTI leaders outlined claims of electoral fraud, violations of the rule of law, and the imprisonment of founder Imran Khan. Conservative peer Lord Daniel Hannan suggested internationalizing the issue beyond the UK, proposing a cross-party letter to elected officials in the US and Australia.
The meeting follows a US House resolution demanding an investigation into the 2022 elections in Pakistan. British Pakistani Labour MP Naz Shah emphasized the importance of human rights and press freedom globally, stating that similar standards should be applied everywhere. The UK government is considering banning PTI and trying its leader for sedition, while the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has called for Imran’s release and compensation.
