The leader of the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, has expressed his gratitude for the upcoming US-backed cease-fire talks scheduled to take place in Switzerland next month. Taking to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Dagalo acknowledged the efforts of the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland in organizing these crucial discussions, set for August 14.
Emphasizing their readiness to participate constructively, Dagalo highlighted the talks as a significant step towards peace, stability, and the establishment of a new Sudanese state based on justice, equality, and federal governance.
The civil war in Sudan, which erupted in April last year between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces under Abdel-Fattah Burhan’s leadership, has caused immense displacement and raised concerns of famine, resulting in a high death toll. While the Sudanese army is yet to address the US-led cease-fire initiative, announced earlier on Tuesday, hopes are high for a positive outcome from the upcoming negotiations.
