Ramaphosa: SA to hit 120 days without load-shedding

President Cyril Ramaphosa commended the progress made in reducing load-shedding instances but cautioned that the country is still at risk of further power cuts. Speaking during the Presidency budget vote, he emphasized the need to sustain the improvements achieved by the National Energy Crisis Committee under his leadership.

Despite reaching 120 days without load-shedding, Ramaphosa stressed that challenges remain in the electricity system. The government’s focus on inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and state development was reiterated as key priorities for the new administration.

The appointment of Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa as the minister responsible for electricity was highlighted for its impact on the energy crisis. However, concerns arose regarding the lack of budget allocation for the new Department of Energy and Electricity.

In response to the ongoing energy constraints, the DA welcomed the restructuring to enhance energy supply stability. The push for innovative solutions to build long-term energy resilience was emphasized amid the evolving energy landscape.
