The Ministry of Infrastructure is taking steps to expand the electronic toll collection system to more roads, particularly highways and expressways operational since 2017. This initiative, part of the National Recovery Plan, aims to increase revenue for the National Road Fund, which supports road investments in Poland.
The proposed regulation seeks to include newly built sections of highways and expressways in the toll collection system for vehicles over 3.5 tons. Since 2017, the toll road network has not been expanded despite the addition of many new national road sections. Currently, tolls are collected on 3,660 km of national roads.
The Ministry of Infrastructure is working on amending the regulation concerning national roads subject to electronic tolls and their rates. The government is expected to adopt this regulation in the third quarter of 2024, according to information available on the Prime Minister’s Office website.
