Affirming the right of the Palestinian people to resist Israeli occupation, representatives of 14 Palestinian factions have signed an agreement to end their divisions and form a temporary government of national unity.
The Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity, signed by Palestinian factions including Hamas and Fatah, aims to establish a temporary government of national unity and assert the right to resist occupation. China’s Foreign Ministry expressed optimism about the agreement, which emphasizes the need for international support and a UN-led conference to address the Palestinian cause.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined a three-step plan to address the Gaza conflict, emphasizing the importance of achieving a lasting ceasefire, governance of Gaza by Palestinians, and the implementation of a two-state solution. The factions also agreed to uphold international laws, follow up on previous reconciliation efforts, and work towards establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Senior Hamas official Dr. Mousa Abu Marzouk commended the historic moment, vowing to continue the struggle for liberation. The agreement represents a significant step towards Palestinian unity and international recognition, despite opposition from Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz.
