In a historic meeting in Beijing, Palestinian factions, including Fatah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad, have agreed to form a unity government that includes all parties. This comes after years of bitter rivalry between Hamas and Fatah, which escalated when Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2006.
Representatives from 14 Palestinian factions met in the Chinese capital, with the aim of forming an interim government of national unity, uniting institutions in the West Bank and Gaza, and preparing for general elections. The date for elections and the formation of the new government has yet to be specified.
The factions committed to establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and guaranteeing the return of Palestinian refugees in accordance with UN Resolution 194. They also affirmed the Palestinians’ right to resist and end the occupation in accordance with international law.
This agreement marks a significant step towards Palestinian unity and the eventual establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, as reported by Klix.ba.
