Israel deploys tanks in Khan Younis; 70 dead after evacuation order

Israel launched a military operation in Khan Younis, resulting in at least 70 Palestinians killed and 200 wounded. Tanks and air bombardment targeted areas used for attacks by militants, with residents forced to flee under fire. The Gaza health ministry confirmed women and children among the casualties from the Israeli strikes.

Evacuation orders were issued to prevent further attacks, with hundreds of families fleeing on foot or donkey carts. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported clinics knocked out of operation, and journalists killed in an airstrike on a hospital tent.

As the death toll rose, efforts to negotiate a ceasefire led by Qatar and Egypt faced challenges due to disagreements between the two sides. Israel remained determined to eradicate Hamas following a deadly assault in October 2023.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian aid and safe zones for the vulnerable civilian population. Despite international efforts, the cycle of violence and retaliation continued, pushing the region further into crisis.
