Recently, a group of Afghan nationals vandalised the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt, leading to a security breach and endangering the consular staff. Videos of the incident went viral, showing intruders removing the Pakistani flag from the mast outside the consulate. In response, Islamabad called on Germany to prosecute the perpetrators and ensure the security of diplomatic missions as per the Vienna Conventions on Consular Relations.
The Pakistani embassy in Germany condemned the act and urged the German authorities to take immediate action. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also lodged a strong protest with the German government, emphasizing the need to safeguard diplomatic missions and staff.
The incident has sparked outrage, with Defence Minister Khawaja Asif criticizing Afghan nationals and calling for a reevaluation of hospitality towards them. Pakistan hosts over 3 million Afghan refugees and recently extended the stay of registered refugees by one year, amidst ongoing deportation efforts.
A separate protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in London highlighted grievances against Pakistan’s military and intelligence services, leading to tensions and clashes between protesters and passersby.
