Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget 2024 today in the Lok Sabha, surpassing former Prime Minister Morarji Desai in the number of Budgets presented. The Budget will be presented in a paperless form for the third consecutive year, with Sitharaman carrying the documents on a tablet sealed in a red cloth.
Her day will start with a visit to the North Block to meet Finance Ministry secretaries before proceeding to the President’s residence for formal assent. A Cabinet meeting will precede the Budget presentation, where Sitharaman will brief members and seek their approval.
At 11 am, Sitharaman will begin presenting the Budget for 2024-25, followed by tabling of expenditure and receipt estimates in both houses. She will also present the macro-economic framework statement and fiscal policy strategy in English and Hindi. A press conference and broadcast interview will follow the Budget presentation, with separate debates expected in the Lok Sabha covering various ministries.
