Tensions in the Aegean are on the rise as Turkey deploys warships near Kasos, leading to diplomatic efforts to decrease hostilities. The move came as the Italian research vessel Ievoli Relume conducted research for the Great Sea Interconnector project between Crete and Cyprus.
Despite the presence of the research vessel in international waters, Turkish Navy ships were deployed, causing Greek warships to respond. Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis emphasized Greece’s commitment to dialogue while maintaining sovereignty.
Turkey has deployed five warships near Greek territorial waters, prompting a cautious Greek response. As both sides monitor the situation, tensions remain high in the southeastern Aegean.
Efforts to communicate and resolve the situation are ongoing, with hopes to prevent further escalation in the region.
