An armed assailant tragically entered a care home in central Croatia, shocking the peaceful town by opening fire, resulting in the death of six elderly residents and wounding six others. The victims, mostly in their 90s, included five residents and one employee of the care home.
The suspect, a former policeman born in 1973, was apprehended by police at a nearby cafe after fleeing the scene. Reports indicate that one of the victims was his own mother, who had resided in the care home for a decade.
The town of Daruvar is mourning the devastating loss, with residents and officials expressing shock and grief over the tragic event. Croatian President Zoran Milanovic called the incident a “savage, unprecedented crime,” urging stricter measures to prevent violence in society.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack as Croatia comes to terms with the senseless tragedy that has left the entire community in disbelief.
