Abia State Government, under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, is prioritizing the payment of outstanding salaries arrears owed to tertiary institutions in the state. With an estimated amount of 18 billion naira owed by the previous administration, the government has committed to beginning payments in August, disbursing 1.5 billion naira monthly over the next 12 months.
In a recent Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed the government’s plans to address the salary payment issues faced by staff at Abia State University. Governor Alex Otti directed immediate payment of all outstanding salaries for both verified and unverified staff members at the university.
Additionally, Otti is focusing on enhancing the welfare of university staff by ensuring timely salary payments and addressing security concerns in public schools. The government will collaborate with homeland security personnel to provide round-the-clock security to safeguard lives and investments in the educational sector.
