UN: Israeli evacuation orders hamper aid access to needy in Gaza

CNN —  According to United Nations agencies, the recent wave of evacuation orders in Gaza by the Israeli military has led to the largest displacements since October, exacerbating the challenges of delivering emergency rations to those in need.

The World Food Program highlighted the impact, stating that many distribution points have closed and only a few bakeries are operational, emphasizing the urgent need for increased food deliveries and hot meals for the affected population.

The spate of evacuation orders has increased the number of displaced individuals in Gaza from 1.7 million to 1.9 million, according to a UN assessment. Despite efforts to provide food assistance to over 600,000 people, the WFP has had to reduce rations in certain areas to accommodate newly displaced individuals.

With limited access for humanitarian aid missions due to Israeli restrictions, essential services like healthcare are under immense strain. Gaza’s health sector is facing challenges in responding to emergencies, including a shortage of ambulances, medications, and medical facilities.

The International Red Cross and Gaza Health Ministry have underlined the critical need for medical supplies and support to address the ongoing health crisis in Gaza.
