Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is set to testify on July 30 in a preliminary corruption inquiry related to his wife Begona Gomez’s business connections, as confirmed by a Madrid court on July 22.
Sanchez will appear as a “witness” before Judge Juan Carlos Peinado at his official residence at 11:00 am to address suspicions of influence peddling involving his wife, according to the court statement.
The investigation surrounding alleged corruption and influence peddling has sparked outrage from Sanchez, who views the allegations as an attempt to undermine his government. His wife, Gomez, opted to remain silent during her questioning by a judge on Friday.
The case, initiated on April 16 based on complaints from anti-graft NGO Manos Limpias and ultra-Catholic group Hazte Oir, alleges corruption and influence peddling in the private sector, although their claims rely solely on media reports.
