Sources report: Kamikaze drones hit Russia’s largest Black Sea oil refinery

In a daring operation, the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense launched drones to attack an oil refinery in Tuapse, Russia, causing a fire on July 22. This facility is a crucial part of Russia’s oil terminal on the Black Sea, producing two million tons of products annually for export pre-war.

The attack damaged the refinery’s infrastructure, with 31 units and 91 personnel working to contain the fire. Despite the aggression, no casualties were reported. A video released by Russian media showed the drone hitting its target, sparking the fire, although the exact time and place remains unverified.

Following the attack, Russian air defenses reportedly intercepted and destroyed 75 Ukrainian drones, with at least eight drones attacking the refinery complex. The extent of damage to the oil refinery and other Russian military facilities is currently being evaluated.

This is not the first time Ukrainian drones targeted Russian facilities, with a previous attack in January igniting a fire at Russia’s largest oil refinery in Tuapse. These incidents highlight the ongoing tensions between the two countries.
