Two new F-16 fighter jets arrived in Slovakia on July 22 to replace the Soviet-era aircraft donated to Ukraine. Slovakia has given Ukraine 13 MiG-29 fighter jets as they were no longer usable for defense needs.

Another 12 F-16s will be in the country by the end of the year, as announced by Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer.

Slovakia signed the contract for the 14 planes in 2018, with delivery delayed due to the COVID pandemic.

Support for Ukraine has faced challenges within Slovakia’s government, with accusations of treason over the fighter jet donations.

Despite government stance, Slovak citizens raised funds to support Ukraine, showing solidarity with their neighbors in need.
