Education is key in preventing tragic events like the death of a teen who fell victim to a sextortion scam in Victoria, according to a coroner.
Rohan Patrick Cosgriff, 17, was found dead at his home near Ballarat in July 2022, leaving behind a note that read, “I made a huge mistake. I’m sorry.”
Police discovered that the teen was a victim of sexual extortion, pressured into sending intimate photos to someone on Snapchat before his death.
Coroner Audrey Jamieson emphasized the need for better education and support for young people facing online threats like sextortion.
