Russia and Ukraine exchange attacks, leaving civilians dead and injured

Russia and Ukraine engaged in a deadly exchange of drone, missile, and shelling attacks on Sunday. Ukrainian strikes in the partly Russian-occupied Donetsk region left at least two people dead, while Russian strikes wounded five. Russia claimed control of two villages along the front line in the Kharkiv and Luhansk regions.

In retaliation, Ukrainian shelling of Russia-held areas resulted in two deaths in the village of Horlivka. Russian drone strikes in the Kherson region wounded three, while Russian shells injured two in the Kharkiv region. Despite Ukraine’s air defenses intercepting most of Russia’s drones and missiles, both sides continue to target infrastructure in the escalating conflict.

Russian forces also seized control of two villages in Ukraine, causing further destruction. The ongoing violence has left numerous civilians wounded and critical infrastructure damaged, underscoring the devastating toll of the conflict.

As the war enters its third year, the region remains plagued by violence and instability, with no clear end in sight.
