Malnutrition poses risks to pregnant women, newborns in Gaza

The United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, issues a warning about the impact of malnutrition on Palestinian women and children in Gaza during Israel’s war on the territory.

Increasingly, premature and low-weight babies are being born in Gaza due to malnutrition, posing a significant risk to pregnant women and newborns. The UNFPA calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to save lives.

Government reports in Gaza reveal that 34 children have starved to death, with 3,500 more at risk of malnutrition-related deaths. UN experts also express concern over Israel’s intentional starvation campaign, leading to famine. The World Health Organization reports over 8,000 children under five years afflicted with acute malnutrition due to the ongoing conflict.

The UNICEF highlights nearly 3,000 children in southern Gaza at risk of death from severe acute malnutrition. Urgent treatment is needed to prevent critical illness and fatalities. The situation calls for immediate action and humanitarian intervention to protect the vulnerable population in Gaza.
