Lula ‘fearful’ of Maduro’s bloodbath warning before Venezuela vote, says president

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed concern over Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s warning of a “bloodbath” if he loses the elections. Lula emphasized the importance of peaceful transitions of power, stating, “Maduro has to learn: if you win, you stay [in power]. If you lose, you go.” He hopes for a smooth electoral process for Venezuela and South America.

Maduro had previously issued threats, highlighting the high stakes of the election for Venezuela. Despite obstacles faced by opposition leaders, including disqualification and intimidation, the democratic process must be upheld.

Lula’s administration will send observers to monitor the election, advocating for transparency and international oversight. Amid calls from several countries to halt repression of dissent, Lula aims to support a peaceful and fair electoral outcome in Venezuela.
