Iran’s nuclear program discussions will continue under the new government and with the newly elected president’s announced positions, according to Deputy Director General Reza Najafi. The focus remains on the other side’s readiness for talks, especially after the US presidential election and the uncertainty surrounding US policy under President Joe Biden.
Najafi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to negotiations, emphasizing that Iran has never abandoned talks. Despite the US withdrawal from the Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action and sanctions, Iran has upheld its obligations as confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 15 reports.
The Comprehensive Plan of Joint Action was implemented in 2016 but faced challenges after the US withdrew in 2018 and imposed sanctions. In response, Iran announced no restrictions on its nuclear program in 2020 and adopted a strategic plan to counter sanctions in late 2020.
