IMF Chief visits Paraguay’s tourist attractions
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva explored the Itaipú Hydroelectric Power Plant and other Paraguayan landmarks before commencing her official agenda in the country. The visit includes meetings with government officials, women leaders, and representatives of civil society and the private sector. Georgieva praised Paraguay’s stability and the crucial role of Itaipú in achieving it.
Georgieva also expressed admiration for the Iguazu Falls during her visit, emphasizing the importance of preserving such natural wonders for future generations. She is set to speak at a conference on the global economic situation in Asunción, alongside the President of the Inter-American Development Bank.
Recognizing Paraguay’s economic growth, Georgieva highlighted the country as one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America. The IMF maintained its projection of 3.8% growth for Paraguay in 2024, showcasing the nation’s above-average performance in the region.
Following her visit to Paraguay, Georgieva will head to Rio de Janeiro for a G20 finance meeting before the city hosts the G20 Summit in November.
