Gunman kills 5+ in Croatia nursing home shooting

Tragedy struck in Croatia as at least five people were killed in a nursing home when a gunman opened fire. The incident took place in Daruvar, located 130 kilometers east of Zagreb.

State broadcaster HRT reported that the unidentified gunman entered the nursing home and started shooting, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Police were alerted at 10:10 a.m. local time and the suspect is now in custody.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic called for a thorough investigation into the horrific incident. The head of a regional emergency care facility confirmed the death toll and the immediate medical response for the wounded.

The alleged shooter was described as a retired military police officer who targeted his mother and others at the nursing home. Daruvar, known for its thermal springs, was shaken by this rare act of violence in Croatia.

Neighboring Serbia experienced similar tragedies last year, emphasizing the need for increased security measures in the region to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
