EU Foreign Policy Chief Slams Israeli PM for Bending History on West Bank Settlements
Josep Borrell, the EU foreign policy chief, criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for distorting history and court opinions in favor of his country. Borrell specifically referenced the recent advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding West Bank settlements, emphasizing the importance of respecting international law.
The ICJ deemed the occupation of Palestinian territories in the West Bank as illegal and called for it to cease immediately. Borrell condemned the humanitarian crisis in Gaza under Israeli attacks, expressing concern for the orphaned and killed individuals in the region. He also highlighted the need for action to rebuild Gaza and implement a ceasefire plan supported by US President Joe Biden.
Regarding Ukraine, Borrell raised awareness of the ongoing attacks on the country’s electrical infrastructure, urging member states to provide support for reconstruction. The EU stands in solidarity with Ukraine and aims to resolve the conflict with Russia within the framework of the United Nations Charter.
