The Defense Ministry is facing a growing challenge as more Self-Defense Forces personnel are leaving their careers prematurely. With an annual resignation rate of around 6,000, the ministry is struggling to maintain and strengthen the SDF’s human resource base.
To address this issue, the ministry has partnered with a private-sector staffing company to conduct a survey of former SDF members. The data gathered will be used to develop strategies and countermeasures to reduce the number of mid-career resignations. These initiatives are expected to be implemented by the end of the current fiscal year in March 2025.
By addressing the reasons behind these resignations and implementing effective solutions, the Defense Ministry aims to improve retention rates within the SDF and ensure a more stable and reliable human resource base for the country’s defense forces.
