Ararat Mirzoyan’s attendance at COP 29 in Baku remains uncertain

Azerbaijan has extended an invitation to Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to attend the upcoming COP 29 conference in November in Baku. The Foreign Ministry of Armenia has not yet confirmed whether they will accept the invitation, stating they will inform once the issue is addressed.

Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to Azerbaijan’s President, revealed that the President of the COP 29 conference, Mukhtar Babaev, formally invited the Armenian Foreign Minister, highlighting Baku’s goodwill and inclusive approach despite the lack of diplomatic relations.

The invitation was not only extended to Prime Minister Pashinyan but also to Mirzoyan, indicating a potential diplomatic breakthrough. However, recent reports about Pashinyan visiting Baku were denied by the Armenian Prime Minister’s spokesperson.

With tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia persisting, the invitation to Mirzoyan seems to signal a possible avenue for dialogue and cooperation in the region, awaiting Armenia’s decision on participation in the COP 29 conference.
