ActionSA has announced their decision to support the ANC in their efforts to remove Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda and replace him with ANC councillor Dada Morero. The ANC has engaged with opposition parties in the city to form a government of local unity (GLU), collaborating with ActionSA and the IFP to oust Gwamanda from Al Jama-ah.
During a media briefing, ActionSA Johannesburg caucus leader Nobuhle Mthembu criticized Gwamanda’s leadership, stating that his failures are evident throughout the city. Despite supporting the ANC, ActionSA Leader Herman Mashaba clarified that the party will not enter the executive to co-govern but will provide support on an issue-by-issue basis.
Key conditions set by ActionSA for supporting the ANC include the immediate removal of the R200 surcharge for prepaid electricity users. This strategic move aims to hold the new government accountable and play a constructive opposition role in driving positive change for the residents of Johannesburg.
