Baghdad International Conference on Combating Drugs
The second Baghdad International Regional Conference on Combating Drugs commenced in Baghdad with the participation of interior ministers from neighboring countries, including Syria’s Major General Mohammed al-Rahmon. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani emphasized the government’s actions to dismantle drug cartels and expressed readiness for joint coordination with neighboring nations.
Al-Sudani highlighted the role of drugs in financing terrorism to destabilize the region, comparing their impact to wars and displacement caused by conflicts like the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza. Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari stressed the increasing danger of drugs and the necessity of cooperation to confront this threat. The ministry has implemented strategies to combat drug dealers and signed agreements with multiple countries to address the drug phenomenon.
As the conference progresses, discussions on collaborative efforts to combat drug trafficking and usage in the region are anticipated to strengthen the fight against this global crisis.
