The State Security Service of Georgia (SBG) has started summoning Georgian volunteers who fought in Ukraine against Russian troops for interrogation. This news was reported by Echo of the Caucasus.
One of the volunteers, Lasha Chigladze, who participated in hostilities in Ukraine and received a medal for courage, was questioned in the Tbilisi City Court. The case against him is classified as secret, with allegations of “conspiracy to overthrow the government and preparation of terrorism.”
Lasha Tkesheladze, Chigladze’s lawyer, described the case as “directly political” and unrelated to the law. Another volunteer, Nadim Khmaladze, was also summoned for questioning, indicating a pattern of targeting Georgian volunteers who fought in Ukraine.
Georgian volunteers fighting in Ukraine have faced repercussions, with one volunteer, Zurab Yashvili, losing his life in the battles against Russian invaders. The summoning of these volunteers raises concerns about political motivations behind the interrogations.
