Punjab, Sindh facing flash flood risk from heavy monsoon rains: disaster management – Pakistan

The Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) of Punjab and Sindh have issued warnings of flash floods in multiple cities due to heavy monsoon rains expected from Monday to Thursday. PDMA Punjab identified cities such as Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura at risk of flooding, emphasizing the potential danger to structures and advising caution to travelers and farmers.

Meanwhile, PDMA Sindh also highlighted the risk of urban flooding in various areas like Hyderabad and Sukkur. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) supported these warnings, predicting thunderstorms in districts across Sindh.

These alerts come in the aftermath of devastating floods in 2022 and 2023 that severely impacted millions of people. The government’s efforts to aid those affected have been hindered by successive natural disasters. International organizations like UNICEF have emphasized the ongoing need for humanitarian assistance in Pakistan.

It is vital for residents and authorities to stay vigilant and prepare for potential disasters, ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in the affected regions.
