Work to restore movement of trains on the section is underway and is expected to be completed by Sunday morning, officials said
Twelve wagons of a Delhi-bound freight train derailed near the Amroha railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening, officials said. No one was injured in the accident.
The mishap occurred just three days after a passenger train derailment in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in four deaths and 31 injuries.
Senior officials reported that the incident took place when a goods train derailed near Amroha railway station around 5 pm.
The accident disrupted train movement on the Ghaziabad-Moradabad section, with 15 trains either diverted or canceled.
Efforts to restore train movement are underway, with rerouting through alternative stations until the repairs are completed by Sunday morning.
The freight train, originating from Uttarakhand and bound for Delhi, had unknown cargo in the derailed wagons.
Congress Criticizes Railways
The Congress party criticized the Railway Minister for the recurring train accidents, highlighting negligence and calling for accountability.
The party accused the government of failing to address safety concerns in the country’s railway system, leading to frequent accidents.
